A child was struck and pinned under an NYPD School Enforcement vehicle on Wednesday afternoon, but miraculously did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.

The accident happened just after 3:00PM, at the intersection of Coney Island Avenue and Ditmas Avenue. The 13-year-old male victim was struck and pinned under the vehicle. In the video below, one can see that thankfully, a tow truck was driving past, and hooked up the police vehicle to the tow truck, and lifted it high enough to allow fast-responding emergency personnel to extricate the victim. FDNY EMS, Flatbush Hatzolah, and Senior Care EMS were all on the scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition – reportedly with a fractured pelvis.

The cause of the crash was being investigated by the NYPD’s Highway CIS Unit, and Coney Island Avenue was closed for 2 blocks while the investigation was taking place. This caused heavy traffic throughout the Flatbush and Kensington areas, and even caused traffic to back up onto the Prospect Expressway.

For those wondering, this was the cause of the multiple news choppers which were hovering overhead.

  1. If they got the van up, and the injured child out and off to the hospital, what kind of 4+ hour investigation did they need that caused traffic to be backed up – literally for miles around?!
