ff

Rescue crews are on the scene at One World Trade Center after a window washers’ scaffold malfunctioned, leaving it dangling in the air about 50 stories above ground, authorities say.

The FDNY said it responded to the skyscraper shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday.

FDNY is reporting 3 workers in distress on the south side on the 50th floor of 1 World Trade Center.

There are no reported injuries at this time.

The problem was unfolding early Wednesday afternoon on the south side of 1 World Trade Center. Television images showed one side of the scaffolding had dropped at a sharp angle.

Joe Pentangelo is the spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the building. He says it appears a cable on the scaffolding broke around 1 p.m.

The Fire Department says the workers are tethered and communicating with rescuers.

It was not immediately clear what rescue measures were planned. WABC-TV reported that people on the ground were moved back in case glass began flying.
