Queens: Burglary Suspect Shot And Injured By NYPD


nypd4The NYPD says police shot and injured a man who attacked an officer with a metal object during a burglary in Queens.

It happened inside a 142nd Street residence in Jamaica on Monday.

Two officers responded after receiving a 911 call of a burglary in progress there.

They entered through a rear door and confronted the burglary suspect in the living room.

Police say the suspect struck one of the officers in the head. Both officers fired at the suspect, striking him in the wrist and thigh.

The suspect, 19-year-old Leighton Friday, was taken to a hospital in stable condition. He was charged with burglary, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and criminal mischief. It wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer.

The officers were in stable condition.
