IDF Coordinator of Activities in Yehuda and Shomron Major-General Yoav Mordechai announced that for the first time since 2007, Israel is permitting Gaza produce to be shipped to PA (Palestinian Authority) areas throughout Yehuda and Shomron in a move to assist in boosting Gaza’s economy.
The first shipment of 10 tons of cucumbers has left Gaza and is heading to the Hebron district. On Sunday, 16 Marcheshvan, a ton of fresh fish is expected to leave Gaza for areas of Yehuda and Shomron. These trucks will be the first carrying goods since Hamas took control over Gaza by ousting the PA.
The IDF liaison office explains this was not minor operation as it involves the United Nations, the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Agriculture in Israel and the Gaza equivalent, as well as other agencies. The goods passed into Israel via the Kerem Shalom Crossing, a crossing that was hit with Hamas rocket fire during Operation Protective Edge.
