According to a report appearing in Yisrael Hayom, quoting the Daily Mail, matzeivos in the Belarusian town of Brest have been used in construction in recent years.

“The headstones have been turning up in locations all over Brest over the past six years, with around 1,500 discovered so far,” the paper said.

It appears the matzeivos were taken from a beis hachaim during the Soviet era and the locals were unaware they were matzeivos.
