Giyur Bill on the Knesset Agenda for Monday

bibnThe controversial Giyur Bill authored by MK (The Movement) Elazar has been placed on the Knesset calendar for Monday 10 Marcheshvan and barring any surprises, the bill is expected to pass its second and third votes, at which time the bill will become law.

Backed by the Yesh Atid, The Movement, and Yisrael Beitenu parties in the coalition, there will also be support from some of the opposition including MKs from the Meretz and Labor parties.

If passed into law chas v’sholom, it will clear the way for the opening of giyur batei din around Israel, usurping the current exclusive control over giyur held by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.

  1. Those who are opposing the giyur bill should consider this: Karen Mosquera, murdered by a terrorist last week, was buried on the Mount of Olives. She was a Jew who had converted with the Beit Din of Rabbi Nissim Karelitz. But because she did not convert through the monopoly of the official Rabbinate, she died a Jew who was ineligible for Israeli citizenship.

Pass the giyur bill and end these injustices.
