New York State Awards Over $2.5 Million For Ramapo Sidewalk Projects

ramNew York State has awarded $2,551,747 to several municipalities within the Town of Ramapo in Rockland County for a number of sidewalk projects throughout the Town.

The Town of Ramapo will receive $1,265,000 for the Route 306 Pedestrian Sidewalk Project, which will encompass the area of Route 306 between Ralph Boulevard and Viola Road. In addition, the Village of Kaser was awarded $258,572 for the Saddle River Road Pedestrian Sidewalk Project. The Village of Wesley Hills is set to receive $1,028,175 for the East Willow Street Sidewalk Improvements Project.

The funding, which was announced by Governor Andrew Cuomo, emanates from the Federal Highway Administration and is administered by the New York State Department of Transportation. 68 projects throughout New York State were selected to receive approximately $70 million as part of the Transportation Alternatives Program through a competitive solicitation process. Under the program, the municipality will receive 80 percent of the cost of the project, with the remaining portion being funded by the municipality itself.

“We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded these critical funds to construct much-needed sidewalks for our residents,” said Ramapo Supervisor Christopher P. St. Lawrence. “The safety of Ramapo residents is of paramount importance, which is why we are constantly working to secure funding from the state and federal governments to undertake these life-saving projects. We are extremely grateful to Governor Cuomo and Commissioner Joan McDonald of the New York State Department of Transportation for taking proactive steps to ensure that municipalities across New York State are better equipped to improve pedestrian safety.”

“These valuable funds will greatly enhance the quality of life in the Town of Ramapo,” said Ramapo Councilman Yitzchok Ullman. “Constructing sidewalks on a main thoroughfare such as Route 306 will encourage and enable pedestrians to traverse the area in a safe and organized fashion and make it easier for vehicular traffic to navigate this heavily utilized state highway.”

“The Village of Kaser is very thankful to Governor Cuomo for these funds, which are extraordinarily vital in order to keep our residents safe,” said Mayor Bernard Rosenfeld of the Village of Kaser. “We live in a community where walking is the primary mode of transportation for many people, and it is therefore crucial that we are able to embark on projects that will help safeguard the pedestrians who frequent our roads on a regular basis.”
