Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Tuesday morning 4 Marcheshvan called to meet with the nation’s chief rabbis, Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita and Chief Rabbi Dovid Lau Shlita. The meeting following the Ministerial Law Committee passing the Giyur Bill, which now awaits a second and third vote in Knesset, where it will become law if passed as is expected will be the case. Due to the urgency of the matter at hand the meeting is set for Tuesday afternoon.
The rabbonim are well-aware that while the prime minister toppled the bill in the cabinet, it has now passed the committee and the only way to prevent it coming for a vote is by having Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein remove it from the agenda.
