Rabbi Chaim Miller, a long time askan working on behalf of Yerushalayim and the chareidi tzibur, spoke with Kol Berama Radio on Sunday 2 Marcheshvan. He called the recent escalation in Arab violence a disgrace and calls on law enforcement agencies to act to restore order. When asked if he believes the violence “crosses red lines”, Miller explained “They always cross red lines”. He pointed out that today, the Arabs are no longer afraid and a swift and stern police response is in order. “In any normal country, after cemeteries and matzeivos are attacked and destroyed, a harsh response would be forthcoming”, questioning the lack of an appropriate response here following years of vandalism and destruction in Har HaZeisim.
Seeking to highlight the lack of a police response, Miller pointed out that today, a very long time after a small number of hooligans targeted Egged buses with rocks the bus line no longer runs through Meah Shearim. He added that the community leaders and overwhelming number of residents condemned the attacks by the small number of individuals, yet the buses have not returned. However, regarding repeated and daily attacks against Jews visiting Har HaZeisim nothing is done. Services to the Arab areas however are not interrupted for a moment.
“I called for pulling Jerusalem light rail service from the Arab communities following attacks” exclaimed Miller, who added the train service continues despite the fact many cars have been damaged in the attacks and are out of service. He warned if police do not implement the appropriate response, “one will require a special passport just to enter the Old City”.
