Three months after being seriously wounded in Operation Protective Edge, Adiel Levy, 21, realized a dream, that he would walk out of the Sheba Medical Center burn unit to rehabilitation on his own. He explains his next dream is that he will run and that his fingers will straighten. They are contracted due to the burns he sustained.
Adiel is now walking daily, aware he has a long road ahead as he sustained burns over 60% of his body. “The battle will be to straighten out my fingers”.
For the medical team, they were battling to stabilize his condition for the first ten days as he was in a medically induced coma. The original estimate was that Adiel would remain in the unit for four to six months. Doctors are pleased that now, after only three months, he is moving ahead to rehab. Adiel’s mother Anat told reporters “he does not realize how critical his condition was and that he was saved. When they remove the bandages then we become aware of the real battle ahead”.
Adiel, a resident of Kiryat Ata, was operating a military a Caterpillar D9 tractor when he was injured on July 28th.
