Can We Please Have Some Quiet & Security Please?

Residents of the northern Jerusalem neighborhood of Pisgat Ze’ev sent a letter to Mayor Nir Barkat and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. The essence of the letter documents the alarming increase in attacks in the area and the need to restore law and order to the region. They are calling for immediate aggressive appropriate actions by the relevant agencies to restore quiet and security to the area. The letter was sent by community resident Moshe Maximov.

To drive the point home, he included the following daily timeline to the letter:

· 04:00-04:30: morning wakeup to the local muezzin at full volume.

· 06:40-08:30: heavy traffic jams heading out of Pisgat Ze’ev

· 07:20: Terrorists jump the separation fence to access the Anata & Shuafat Refugee Camps

· 10:00-10:20: Once again, the muezzin in full volume

· 11:00-13:00: shooting in the school – celebrating the end of the day’s classes

· 12:30-13:00: once again, the muezzin

· 13:48: Shooting heard from Anata and Shuafat

· 15:41: Shooting heard from Anata and Shuafat

· 16:00-16:30: the muezzin is operating at full volume again

· 16:25: Shooting heard from Anata and Shuafat

· 16:50: A new apartment building is under construction near the separation fence

· 16:58: Shooting heard from Anata and Shuafat

· 19:00-19:30: The muezzin is at full volume again

· 19:50: Rock-throwing attack at the light rail.

· 19:00-00:55: weddings & other celebrations accompanied by unacceptably loud music from the neighboring Arab villages

· 19:00: gunfire celebrating weddings

· 19:20: gunfire celebrating a birthday

· 19:40: gunfire celebrating a birthday

· 19:52: a bus traveling near Hizme is attacked with rocks

· 20:00: fireworks continue as the Arab celebrations continue

· 20:20: ongoing fireworks at the [Arab] wedding

· 20:30-21:00: the muezzin is at full volume again

· 20:52: Another rock attack against the light rail

· 21:10: A vehicle traveling in Atarot is attacked with rocks

· 21:15: A number 66 bus traveling on Uzi Narkiss Blvd. is targeted in a rock-throwing attack.

· 21:50: Rock attack against the light rail

· 22:10: A vehicle traveling on Rt. 20 was attacked with rocks

· 22:15: continued fireworks and gunfire

· 22:21: Rock attack against the light rail

· 22:25: More fireworks at the [Arab] wedding

· 22:45: Continued fireworks and gunfire

· 23:00: Fireworks from the wedding continue

· 23:12: A 66 bus traveling on Uzi Narkiss Blvd. is hit with rocks

· 23:15: Fireworks at the wedding continue

· 23:30: fireworks at the wedding continue

· 23:45: fireworks continue

· 00:00: Gunfire and fireworks continue

· 00:55: the noise continues as the muezzin is at full volume again

He explains these events are daily and they have turned life for residents of the Jerusalem neighborhood into an intolerable situation. “Tel Aviv is the city that never sleeps. Jerusalem is a city without a cessation of noise and without security. Please, may we have a little quiet and security?”

In a related matter, a bus traveling on Uzi Narkiss Blvd. on Wednesday morning 28 Tishrei was targeted in another rock-throwing attack. Windows were shattered. B”H there were no injuries.

  1. Giuliani was successful at significantly reducing serious crime by including a relentless campaign, zero tolerance, against quality-of-life violations. When he outlawed all firecrackers unless done by licensed businesses with a permit, which even included SPARKLERS, there may have been some grumbling, but it made a vast difference. He wouldn’t even budge for Chinese New Year parades, which could have argued religious freedom of expression. That’s the way to handle the insane emotional and sensory assaults by Muezzin at all hours and gun shots and firecrackers at Arab celebrations. OUTLAW and ENFORCE – zero tolerance.
