After all but agreeing to back the candidate of Rabbi Eliyahu Schlesinger Shlita in his bid to become the next Jerusalem Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi, Degel Hatorah has announced it will be joining Agudas Yisrael in backing Rabbi Moshe Chaim Lau Shlita.
In an interview with Kol Berama Radio Rabbi Schlesinger stated he was not going to back out of the race, calling on Rav Lau to step down to clear the road for his victory. Rabbi Schlesinger stated he is planning to see the race through to the end.
Simply stated, Degel Hatorah officials’ have realized they have a significantly better chance of getting a chareidi rav elected to the post if they go with Rav Lau, prompting the decision to abandon Rav Schlesinger.
Rabbi Schlesinger has been the Chief Rabbi of the Gilo neighborhood of the capital for the past 40 years and serves as rav/posek of the Jerusalem Religious Council for the last years. Rabbi Schlesinger has also announced Maran Rav Elyashiv ZT”L endorsed his candidacy in the past. However, it does not appear that he will enjoy the backing of any chareidi party in the upcoming race, significantly diminishing his chances of success.

We should make a rip in our clothes for bizayon hatorah
Hinei mah tov, u’mah na’im, sheves achim gam yachad. We should applaud the show of achdus and presume the depth of da’as Torah rather than rip our clothes.
We should clap our hands, grin from end to end, jump up high and rejoice how POLITICS is played in the holyland especially against the NON-Charedi Enemy!!!!!
The end game is to be a winner, who you wipe the floor with, embarrass or demean ain’t as important as winning the TROPHY!!!

I agree
I can’t stand reading about any elections in E”Y.
It just seems like one bizayon after another.
We need moshiach.
