Rav Eliyahu Seeks Support from the Rishon L’Tzion


eliyahuTzfas Chief Sephardi Rabbi, Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu Shlita met with Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita as the former seeks the latter’s support in the upcoming Jerusalem Chief Rabbinate race. Rabbi Eliyahu is one of the ten candidates competing to become the city’s next Sephardi Chief Rabbi.

Rabbi Eliyahu arrived at Rav Yosef’s sukka on Monday 19 Tishrei in the hope of receiving the rav’s backing for his candidacy. Rav Eliyahu stated that he does enjoy the support of some members of the chareidi community. Rabbi Yosef however did not state who he is backing in the election since he has relatives running in the race as well. Rabbi Shlomo Amar Shlita is a mechutin and Rabbi Mordechai Toledano Shlita is a brother-in-law, both competing for the post.
