A California lawmaker wants New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton as the nation’s next Secret Service director, but he says he’s staying put.
Congresswoman Janice Hahn said Monday in a statement that Bratton would be the “perfect pick” to take over the troubled agency.
The Los Angeles Democrat worked with Bratton when she was on the city council there and he was police chief. Her spokesman said she plans to write a letter to the White House recommending him.
Bratton responded Monday by saying he appreciated the vote of confidence, but plans to stay at the helm of the nation’s largest police department.
Secret Service Director Julia Pierson resigned last week amid an uproar over presidential protection lapses.
