The city is spraying some areas in Brooklyn with pesticide due to rising West Nile activity from mosquitoes.
The New York City Health Department confirms that five people in New York have contracted the West Nile virus, including two Brooklyn residents.
The city has planned to spray areas of the borough that see a high mosquito population, including parts of Bath Beach, Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton.
The treatment starts Tuesday night at 8 p.m. and will continue until Wednesday at 6 a.m.
The Health Department says to avoid standing water and always try to wear long sleeves to prevent bugs from biting. It also advises using bug repellent.
Residents in areas that will be sprayed are asked to try and stay indoors, and remove children’s toys from outside if possible.
