Fire officials in New York City added 13 names to a memorial wall of members who have died from illnesses directly related to their work at the site of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
In a somber ceremony at the New York Fire Department’s headquarters Thursday, family and friends put white roses beneath the wall where the names of their loved ones are inscribed on plaques.
Among those honored are four firefighters, two battalion chiefs, three officers, two paramedics, a fire marshal and an EMT.
Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro (NY’-groh) told the families the department won’t forget their sacrifice.
There are 89 names in the FDNY memorial wall in addition to the 343 who died responding to the towers. Next Thursday makes the 13th anniversary of the attacks.
