Turkey’s PM Rules Out Normalized Relations with Israel

tpmTurkish Prime Minister Recep Ahmet Davutoglu on Monday 6 Elul announced he does not envision a return to normalized diplomatic relations with Israel. The newly-elected prime minister explained that diplomatic ties with Israel cannot exist for as long as the Jewish state attacks Gazan and continues its blockade.

Davutoglu served as Turkey’s foreign minister under Tayyip Erdogan. Erdogan was just elected president and Davutoglu moved into the PM slot.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has been a harshly outspoken critic of Israel. Once a staunch ally, he has clearly shifted in the direction of Islamic fundamentalism, preferring to find favor in the eyes of Iran, Hamas and other members of the Axis of Evil in the region, distancing his country from any ties with Israel. Prior to the Mavi Marmara incident Turkey was a strong ally of Israel, enjoying high-level diplomatic ties and participating in joint military exercises.

  1. Israel blew their relationship with Turkey, the only friendly Muslim country it had, with their stupid actions on that ship that sailed from Turkey. They could have refused to allow it to port without displaying the bravado of how great a power they are by boarding it resulting in what occurred.

  2. This will get rather awkward for the Turks if/when they have to join with NATO to stop Russia getting too friendly with Iran, Syria and any other such-nice-well-run states. In the past Turkey has had a bad habit of choosing the wrong friends
