There is a new storm brewing in Jerusalem City Hall between Yahadut Hatorah and Shas as they are both vying for another slot on the Jerusalem Planning Board. Both parties boycotted a Wednesday morning 2 Rosh Chodesh Elul meeting of the committee.
Yahadut Hatorah feels it is entitled to a third slot on the planning board, explaining the request dates back to coalition negotiating days. At that time Mayor Nir Barkat did not approve the request, explaining the planning committee was filled.
The Interior Ministry has announced that City Councilman Aryeh King may no longer be on the planning board due to a conflict of interests. The ministry has agreed to give that slot to Yahadut Hatorah for its third slot. Yahadut Hatorah insists it is entitled to the third slot based on its representation on the city council.
King was in agreement and the mayor convened a meeting of the planning board on Wednesday morning to give the slot to Deputy Mayor Yossi Deutsch. However, the appointment was removed from the agenda at the last moment, apparently in response to Shas demands that it receive the slot instead of Yahadut Hatorah.
With the exception of Councilman Chaim Epstein of the Bnei Torah party the chareidim did not attend the meeting and therefore they lacked the required minimum number to proceed. However, four people did eventually show up and the chareidim realized the boycott was ineffective. The meeting was held, albeit later than scheduled.

They have a responsibility to use their government position ????? ????. If they keep fighting over silly things these politicians won’t stand a chance in overturning the draft. I don’t know much about Israeli politics and how it works, but wouldn’t it be better if there was one Charedi party (which has more power than ten parties that won’t work with each other because they’re not Ashkenazi/Sefardi)?
