Israel responded to the Wednesday morning mortar rocket attack into the Golan Heights. IDF artillery fire was directed over the border in response to the stray gunfire. An IDF officer was struck in his chest with light weapons fire, transported to a trauma center by chopper. While it is believed the mortar rockets and gunfire were not intentional, rather stray fire from the ongoing civil war, Israel has responded since Jerusalem views the Syrian Army responsible. The rebel forces have since taken control of the crossing.
After the attacks earlier in the day the area was closed as was Route 98 near the Quneitra Crossing. Visitors and farmers were distanced from the area.
It is also reported that a brush fire resulted in the Quneitra Crossing area as a result of the mortar fire.
