The lead attorney for the acknowledged mastermind of the Sept. 11 terror attacks is threatening to withdraw from the case unless the government divulges details about FBI investigations of defense team members.

David Nevin said Thursday during a pretrial hearing at the U.S. naval station at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, that the possibility that members of the defense team are working with the FBI has strained his relationship with client Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Nevin asked the judge, Army Col. James Pohl, to reconsider his July 24 ruling that the FBI’s actions don’t pose a potential conflict of interest in Mohammed’s case. The ruling was based on a special review team’s conclusion that the FBI was no longer investigating anyone.

Pohl says the order remains in effect pending further proceedings in October.
