Lawyers for Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev say they likely won’t be ready for November’s scheduled trial start.
Defense lawyers appearing in U.S. District Court in Boston on Thursday argued that prosecutors have given them massive amounts of evidence as part of the pre-trial discovery process that they now need to sort through. They intend to formally request a trial delay later this month.
Prosecutors say they simply complied with the defense’s extremely broad document request.
Judge George O’Toole, meanwhile, gave prosecutors until next Thursday to file their response to the defense’s latest arguments seeking to move the trial.
Tsarnaev’s lawyers want the proceedings moved to Washington, D.C., because they say Tsarnaev can’t get a fair trial in Boston. Prosecutors oppose the request.
