The following is a CBC article:
Members of Montreal’s Hasidic Jewish community are upset — and perplexed — after a thief broke into a family’s home and stole some items of traditional clothing.
Two shtreimels — the traditional fur hats many men in Outremont wear — and a long, black coat known as a bekishe were stolen from the home of a family of five on the night of July 25.
“Instead of going for the valuables, they went specifically for the bekishe and the two streimels. And that’s worrisome. Had they taken more articles, it wouldn’t have raised the suspicions that it did raise,” said community member Zvi Hershcovich.
Hershcovich said the items stolen has his fellow Hasidic Jews scared about a possible attempt at infiltrating the community to do harm.
Alex Werzberger of the Coalition of Outremont Hasidic said the theft was clearly well-planned, but doesn’t understand why someone would want to dress up in stolen clothes to enter a synagogue.
“I find, to my mind, the whole thing interesting in the least of things and odd. I don’t know why they need these garments,” he said.
No suspect behaviour has yet been spotted in Outremont, but the Hasidic community is asking anyone who spots the clothing or who notices anything suspicious to contact police.

Today’s news: Hamas terrorists have been encouraged to dress up like ordinary Orthodox Jews, according to Palestinian Media Watch, to carry out suicide attacks on Israeli civilians.
Nowadays, every shul around the globe must have a guard at the entrance along with a member of the shul.
Hine lo yanum velo yishon shomer yisrael. May the Rebono Shel Olam save us and protect us from evil malicious people.
I was thinking the same thing #1 said. This sounds to me like someone was looking for a costume for a role he was supposed to play. Let’s hope he breaks a leg literally and won’t be able to carry out his dastardly deed.
I just saw a headline on another news site stating that hamas has urged suicide bombers to dress as orthodox Jews……..Very interesting news!
Nah, the thief is probably a person who davens in the victim’s shul. Let the police look for a person with a gartel that has a grudge against the victim, and they will probably find the clothing in the closet.
Regarding the bekeshe, the gonif really wanted a kapote, but one doesn’t always get one’s be’kasha!
Let’s see? Somebody lives in a neighborhood where to fit in, he must own a fur hat and other mon-halachic accouterments. However, being uneducated, he doesn’t have the money to buy such items.
What to do?
I wonder.
did he steal the potato kugel
