The Verrazano-Narrows upper level will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5-6 a.m. beginning Mon. Aug. 4 through Wed., Aug. 20 for the removal and installation of new steel sign gantries and signs.

Motorists will be able to use the lower level of the bridge, which will remain fully open, while this work is done.

Commercial vehicles carrying hazardous materials and those that are more than 13-feet-6-inches tall will not be permitted to cross in either direction during full, upper level closures. These vehicles must use alternate routes. In addition, vehicles that are more than 17-feet-wide will not be permitted to cross the lower level westbound into Staten Island during full upper level closures. There is no restriction on over-wide vehicles on the lower level heading into Brooklyn.

The eastbound upper level to Brooklyn will reopen at 5 a.m. each day to accommodate rush hour traffic. The westbound upper level into Staten Island will reopen at 6 a.m.
