Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein announced on Tuesday 9 Menachem Av that he rejects the position of MK Hanin Zoabi, who insists she is not required to comply with an Israel Police request to come in for questioning. Zoabi is under investigation for his alleged illegal activities including insulting public officials and incitement to violence.

Her problems began during the 18-day period during which authorities were searching for kidnap victims; Gilad Shaar, Naftali Frenkel and Eyal Yifrach HY”D. She refused to call Hamas “terrorists”, insisting they “freedom fighters defying the occupation”.

Zoabi also insulted police at anti-war protests, and assaulted policemen. She was summoned for questioning by the Yahav 433 Unit, refusing to comply, explaining she is protected by parliamentary immunity. She also explained her busy schedule does not afford her time for police questioning. The MK’s attorney called to see the evidence against her, but the Justice Ministry on Tuesday ruled the state has no obligation to reveal the evidence against her at this time.

Ministry officials added that the MK’s parliamentary immunity does not relieve her of her responsibility to report for police questioning.
