A U.S. official has identified the senior officer killed in Afghanistan Tuesday as Maj. Gen. Harold Greene, the highest-ranking American officer killed in combat since 1970.
Greene was the deputy commanding general, Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan. An engineer by training, Greene was involved in preparing Afghan forces for the time when U.S.-coalition troops leave at the end of this year.
Greene was killed Tuesday in one of the bloodiest insider attacks of the long Afghanistan war when a gunman dressed as an Afghan soldier turned on allied troops, wounding about 15 U.S. and coalition forces. They included a German general and two Afghan generals.
NBC news says that Greene was a native of upstate New York and graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.

Misheluni?
Where is the “statement” of “outrage”, “appalled”, “shocked”, etc from the President of the United States or his puppet John Kerry? Don’t they care about one of their own? Will that idiot, Susan Rice, explain it away that another video has surfaced thats “insulting” to Muslems, so they had it coming? Oh right, the Major General was a “White AMERICAN Male” so Hussain doesn’t care.
Sounds like a Jewish name, was he Jewish?
The loss of any soldier is a tragedy for the Armed Forces and the soldiers family and colleagues.
However, I urge N Obama Esq to act with the maximum restraint in considering his response to this cowardly attack. Islam is a peace loving religion and I am sure the perpetrator of this deed was a single individual not a representative of all Muslims, only acting in what he thought was the best way. The Afghan people are suffering daily and they do not need the USA to encourage any further violence by a disproportionate response to this death of a single individual.
What in the world is the U.S. army still doing in Afghanistan? September 11th happened over a decade ago. Now just imagine what America’s reaction would be if a country starting launching thousands of missiles at us? The army would be there “ad bias goel!”
