The big question most are asking is what is going on in Gaza? Reports from the border send mixed messages. On the one hand many troops and armored vehicles have pulled back and left Gaza, returning to southern Israel, while other troops continue to operate. Government officials report “the operation will continue for as long as necessary”. The messages are benign and ambiguous, more often poignant for what is not said rather than what is said.
As the most senior government officials assure citizens of Israel that the destruction of terror tunnels is almost complete, simultaneously there are reports of additional tunnels and access points involving clashes via these tunnels with IDF soldiers.
Nevertheless, it is clear Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu plans to announce “mission accomplished” in the coming days, as he will explain to the nation that the goal was to locate and destroy the vast tunnel network. In essence, since Israel does not have the map of the tunnel system, one cannot know how much of the massive network still exists.
Southern Israeli residents are expressing growing concern as the steady bombardment of mortar shells continued on Sunday. Community leaders are calling on the prime minister and defense minister not to abandon their situation. Mortar rocket fire into border communities on Sunday afternoon was heavy. Once again, B’chasdei Hashem, without fatalities or injuries.

I would love to think that this is all part of a plan to confuse the enemy but that’s too much to expect from Bibi and Zippy
Its not what going on in GAZA , its whats going on at home, the government was fighting the kollelim and the large families so called to save money, Hashem gave them the real fight and real loss of money, they chased yiden out of GAZA into the streets, so the Gazans are chasing all of the country running to shelters, but they remain stubborn and so are the chamasnikim. Surrender to Hashem correct your wrong doing so Hashem will help much faster and better than the army.
Rambam says that when bad things happen you are supposed to look at yourself to see what you can improve… I don’t know of anywhere that it says you should look over your neighbor’s shoulder to see what they’re doing wrong.
Hashem holds us more responsible because we know and understand the value of Torah. When a gzeira is made agianst it, it is a signal for US to look at ourselves and strenghthen OURSELVES in our commitement. NOT to look at people who have no concept of what torah is or how important it is, who never were exposed to such ideas due to their upbringing and say that it is their fault that everything is wrong.
Lev malachim beyad Hashem. If their decrees succeed you can be sure that there is a decree that says the same thing in shamayim.
It turns out, we have been relying on a force that is somehow limited in strength we must totally rely on hashem who has the full unlimited power. Last night when i said in zemiros, יאתה לך צורי לקבץ עם מפוזרי מיד גוי אכזרי אשר כרה לי שוחה it had a different and very strong meaning. as known, the zemiros were written with רוח הקודש, and now i see that the “tunnels” are mentioned here, it then reminded me that the yidden already enjoyed a much more sophisticated “Iron Dome system” at the night before kerias yam sif, when the whole barrage just bounced back on the מצריים. Let’s daven to hashem.
Seichel b’rosh – interesting take on the situation. Lives lost apart ( which this is no price on ANY Yiddish Neshoma) this operation has cost 1.7 BILLION dollars – way more then all the government cuts thru out E’Y.
Seihel,
Or hashem is showing us how important Torah and an active standing army is. How hilonim who are moser nefesh par excellence for their brothers in kollelim and night clubs lehavdil
All is needed. Haredim who don’t full time study should serve like their brethren even if they’re affiliated to a non Zionist faction. If you don’t agree then move to ny state
Seichel Brosh- then how do you explain the fact that the kidnapped killed boys were not from families that did the disengagement from Gaza, they were in a Yeshiva learning and were against the disengagement, and one of the soldiers killed on Friday was from Kiryat Arbah in Chevron, who were also against the Disengagement, who learned in yeshiva, and Hadar also was a Very very Shtark guy, so shut your mouth, you can’t hold a candle to any of the guys who died in this war, they were all on a tremendous madraiga in midos and closeness to the Aibershter that you cannot begin to come close to. Of course the government made so many stupid idiotic mistakes but why would good people be dying? You don’t have the answers, you don’t know anything. Why don’t you just do what the Rebbe suggested- do more Mitzvot, learn Torah, and do something for another person to come closer to yiddishkeit that does not include bashing people.
Agree with #2 and #3. But no to #4, people spend their free time evenings and weekends incl. Shabbos to do kol dovor ossur, should go to the army. It’s been tried and tested: the army has no place for chareidim. And without torah the army is useless as this war has shown; after more than 4 weeks, mortars are still shelling from Gaza; terrorists are still emerging from unknown tunnels – what has been achieved? Nothing! Why? because bibi and the rest of the echolon stubbornly refuse to recognise the hand of Hashem.
Beta- never in our history did we not go to war, all our great leaders were warriors, with a Torah in one hand and a sword in another. When Bnei Yisroel were attacked in the Midbar, I did not read that they’d ere told to daven only, they had to go to war. When Yehoshua went into eretz Yisroel, he had to go to war, Avraham had to go to war, Dovid Hamelech had to go to War, and he WROTE the Tehillim. The only time the Jews only davened and did not go tomWar was during the Holocaust when Jewish Leaders urged the Jews to go quietly, and try and get along. Six Million Jews perished even though they prayed, even extremely pious, learned, Jews, never Rabbis, even innocent children, even yeshiva Bochurs in Yeshivas across Poland . So on what planet do you see that we are only supposed to daven?? In fact the only problem we are facing were is that we are not going to war enough, and have let Hamas take over. We have weak leadership. But you can’t complain about the leadership until one of your Torah scholars takes up the sword and wages war.
Seichel-
Please dont speculate why HKBH does certain things. You are not his Navi and therefore have no basis to make such claims.
Why would anyone want to serve if they are just going to die because of some ceasefire or because Israel didn’t bother upgrading personnel carriers since 1971!
After all the deaths, Hamas is still in charge of Gaza, the rockets are still firing, the rest of the world is now crazy going after all the Jews but at least we took out a whole bunch of empty buildings.
Israel has decided not to try to conquer Gaza (which would result in the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians, and probably over a thousand Israeli soldiers), but to more or less permanently lay seige to the place. Surrounding Gaza with serious fortifications can preclude the tunnel method of assault , and should facilitate blocking the shipment of military supplies. It is the most cost efficient (in terms of blood and treasure) method of preventing attacks on Israeli civilians.
A political solution would solve the matter, but the zionists are incapable of a political solution since that would require giving up the idea of a western secular state based on Euro-American culture. Therefore the permanent state of less than war, less than peace, is the best that can be hoped for (perhaps until Meshiach comes, though when the hareidim become a majority they can probably negotiate an end to the war by withdrawing the zionist demand that the Arabs be subjugated to the zionists).
#2, does anyone believe this nonsense other than you?
gabs911,etc.
We all shudder for the soldiers and their families
However one need to keep his gaze at the bigger, greater long term picture
Here are some excerpts of old british veterans :
‘What is extraordinary … is their vehement insistence that those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the war would now be turning in their graves.
…“My patriotism has gone out of the window,” said an ex-serviceman.
…’Said one ex-commando who took part in the disastrous Dieppe raid … “Those comrades of mine who never made it back would be appalled if they could see the world as it is today.”
…“If I had my time again, would we fight as before? Need you ask?”
Many writers are bewildered and overwhelmed by a multi-cultural Britain that, they say bitterly, they were never consulted about nor feel comfortable with.
“Our country has been given away to foreigners.”
…’As a group, … they see … the damning of dissenters as racists or Little Englanders as deeply upsetting affronts.
…“Our British culture is draining away at an ever increasing pace,” wrote an ex-Durham Light Infantryman, “and we are almost forbidden to make any comment.”
‘A widow from Solihull blamed the Thatcher years “when we started to lose all our industry and profit became the only aim in life.”
Her husband, a veteran of Dunkirk and Burma, died a disappointed man, believing that his seven years in the Army were wasted.
…“As I look around parts of Birmingham today you would never know you were in England,” she wrote. “He would have hated it.”
leahleh,
Dare you to attempt going down that road, your foolishness will be exposed and torn apart
(Just a minor example as difficult as it is :among Gush chevre were some of the worst opponents against keeping a semblance of religiousity in the state made the more egregious by their incessant proffesed orthodoxy and morning after piety:fifth columnists?)
leahleh,
It is so tempting to shred a single childish statement of yours.
But then you may suffer a crisis
or every single..
