Officers and soldiers from the elite Pulsar Givati unit were killed and wounded when a Hamas suicide bomber blew himself up near them on erev Shabbos 5 Menachem Av. After the smoke cleared the deputy company commander realized 2nd.-Lt. Hadar Goldin was missing. He then detected an opening to another Hamas tunnel. In defiance of orders the officer and some of his troops entered the tunnel hoping to find Goldin, who they assume was taken captive.
The fatal incident occurred at 09:16, one hour and sixteen minutes into the 72-hour humanitarian ceasefire.
The deputy company commander realized time was not on their side and he made the decision to take off after the terrorists despite the dangers that they faced below. They began following the tracks of the terrorists, seeing items belonging to Hadar in the tunnel. Other than the items, they did not see anything or anyone. The soldiers were aware they were out of radio contact but they were not about to abandon Goldin. They eventually came back up, aware the terrorists were gone. As the IDF sealed down the area and began inspecting the tunnel they found exits inside southern Israel, near two kibbutzim, as well as exits leading into areas of Gaza, including a Hamas headquarters.
Killed in that operation were:
1. Major Benaya Sarel HY”D, 26, of Kiryat Arba (Sayeret Givati)
2. First Sgt. Liel Gidoni HY”D, 20, of Yerushalayim (Sayeret Givati)
3. 2nd.-Lt. Hadar Goldin HY”D, 23, of Kfar Sava (Sayeret Givati)

So is he alive or dead?
“…seeing items belonging to Hadar in the tunnel. Other than the items, they did not see anything or anyone.”
These kind of evidence is no proof he was killed or died. Had he been married, his wife would not be able to remarry in such a case.
Did they find his body or did they bury the items they found?
Arye the rav who poskins in this situation is aware of all the facts involved and im sure he made a the proper call in its entirety. You and I are not privy enough to get the best information all we have is YWN which is ok but even if had more info we should not be second guessing a rav especially during wartime.
The IDF paskened he was niftar. What else do you need to know?
Not one article so far explains if he was killed or not. What proof do they have ?

One thing is for sure. You can never paskin based on information gathered from the media.
The Chief Rabbi of the IDF ruled that he was dead, the IDF rabbinate has recently spent MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ON TECHNOLOGY THAT ONLY ISRAEL HAS, that can do DNA ANALYSIS IN THE FIELD on blood and tissues and other unbelievable methods to help them render a quick decision, much quicker than in the past, and if needed, they put together a Beit Din with Gedolei Hador, so educate yourself before you open your mouth. There are actually No IDF related Agunot for this reason. This is how the Aibershter shows mercy to the IDF soldiers, that this technology be given to Israel and no one else in the world, which Is
also is praise to Israel that we care.
And the GUYS WHO WENT DOWN THE TUNNEL after seeing their dead comrades to look for the missing soldier are the BIGGEST HEROES I HAVE EVER HEARD OF IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. That level of caring for another human being, that level of moser nefesh for another person, so that his body could be found either alive or dead and bring closu to his family, is on such a High level that no one can ever reach rarely. May all Klal Yisroel see yeshuos and Nechamaos from their brave acts.
Thank you to all our brothers in the battlefield. We are forever grateful, and can never appreciate you enough. I am charedi and I wish we could close the divide. Please know that most chareidim love you and feel as your brothers no matter our differences. You are always in our tefillos! May Hashem protect you and blanket you with HIS heavenly kindness and bring you back safe and secure!
