Brigadier-General (reserves) Yossi Kuperwasser, who spent his career in IDF intelligence and intelligence research explained to Channel 2 TV News that in order to defeat Hamas, the terrorist organization must be stripped of two components of its identity.

He explains that for one thing, Hamas will have to abandon its identity as a first rate terrorist organization capable of perpetrating attack against Israel at will. Kuperwasser states this is how Hamas perceives itself and thinking the terror organization may at some point surrender is a most unlikely scenario due to its inherent reason for existence. The second is to compel Hamas to relinquish Hamas’ control over Gaza. Kuperwasser explains this two main characteristics define Hamas identity today from the perspective of the organization’s leaders.
