New York health officials have awarded $462 million to help 22 hospitals and five large public hospital systems statewide continue key services.
The funds follow a federal agreement in April for New York to reinvest $8 billion in Medicaid savings to support hospital overhauls and expand primary medical care over five years.
The goal is to reduce avoidable hospital use by 25 percent while helping financially struggling hospitals shift to more primary and outpatient care.
The interim subsidies include $152.4 million for New York City Health and Hospitals Corp., $37.2 million for Nassau Health Care Corp. and $32 million to SUNY hospitals, three of the large systems.
Awards for 22 so-called safety net facilities include $53.4 million for Brookdale Hospital and $36.9 million for Interfaith Medical Center, both in Brooklyn.
