Hundreds of additional officers are hitting city streets in an effort to crack down on summer crime.
NY1 reports that between 350 and 400 officers, who have been on desk jobs or special assignment, will be placed back on patrol for 90 days.
The officers will be sent to 10 precincts and five housing police services areas where many of this years shootings have occurred.
Most of the extra officers will be heading to Brooklyn and the Bronx, with about 100 of those patrolling housing developments.
Although shootings are up from last year, 2014 still has the second fewest number of shooting incidents in the last 20 years.
