Kiamisha: Structure Fire At Munkatch Camp

k

A fire broke out in a bunkhouse at the Munkatch boys camp in Kiamisha, Monday afternoon. But thankfully, no one was seriously injured. Sources tell YWN Catskills that the fire started around 3:50PM in a basement of a 3 story bunk house / dormitory at the camp which is located on Route 42. The Monticello Fire Department as well as deputies from the Sullivan County Sheriff Department helped evacuate the children on the upper floors – who were still unaware that a fire had started in the basement.

A second alarm was requested, and mutual aid was called from the towns of Smallwood, Fallsburg, Rock Hill and others.

Catskills Hatzolah was on the scene along with Mobilmedics, and one person was taken to the hospital for some smoke inhalation. Their condition appeared to be stable.

Thanks to the quick response of the fire department, the damage was minimal, and mostly smoke-related. Additionally, thanks to the Sheriff Deputies along with the Monticello FD – all the occupants were safely evacuated, possibly saving many lives.
