Officials Urge Caution As Temperatures Rise Across Tri-State Area

hwnOfficials are urging everyone in the Tri-State area to prepare for the hot weather we’ll be experiencing for the rest of the week.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from noon until 8 p.m. Wednesday in New Jersey for Somerset, Middlesex, western Monmouth, Mercer, Gloucester, Camden, Burlington and Ocean counties.

Forecasters say temperatures in the 90s will combine with humidity to make it feel like it’s around 100 degrees.

The New York City Office of Emergency Management and the Department of Health are asking people to check on any vulnerable family, friends and neighbors.

The high heat can be particularly dangerous to the elderly, the very young and anyone with per-existing medical conditions. It can also be dangerous for pets.

The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management says residents can contact their local and/or county Offices of Emergency Management for information on any open air-conditioned senior centers or cooling stations or call 211.

There’s also slight risk of thunderstorms Wednesday. But Tropical Storm Arthur could increase the risk of heavy downpours later in the week depending on the storm’s track.
