150 Units of Blood Donated in Meah Shearim Blood Drive [SEE ATTACHED PHOTO]

A blood drive sponsored by the Leumit Kupat Cholim in Meah Shearim yielded 150 units of blood. The drive was held in cooperation with Lev Malka. The actual event was set up in 3 Sonnenfeld Street in Beit Yisrael.

During the event, which was sponsored to a significant blood shortage, 150 people came forward to donate. Both organizations call upon anyone able to give blood to do so towards alleviating the shortage.

  1. I thank all that came to donate
150? that is is so small it’s not funny, they should run it in the dining room of the MIR and get 10x the amount of people to donate

  2. It doesn’t surprise me that they got so little people. First of all, that picture says “uncomfortable”! The least they can have are chairs that lean back and not mattresses with no pillows. Also, from what I’ve seen, there is no real incentive to give blood in Israel. If they offer food, it’s minimal and many times blood drives are held in little trucks which are not really appealing.

I know it shouldn’t make a difference, giving blood is a major Mitzvah. But humans are humans and need incentives to do things.

Look at Bikur Cholim in NY. When they make a BD they offer good and drink and a prize of some sort. It’s done in a nice location with comfortable chairs. And from what I understand, people come! Maybe it’s time Israel took a lesson.

  3. I, and many others, give to the Bikur Cholim blood appeal every eight weeks. Do you? I’ve been doing this for almost 20 years.

There are always shortages during the summer months. Now is the time to get involved; no excuses.

  4. In the US one also gets a blood card which records how much blood you’ve given. If you CH”V are in a situation where you need blood, you can get the blood transfusion you need at no charge, up to the number of units you have given. Israel has no such arrangement. Neither does Canada.
