On Sunday, YWN reported that the police made two arrests following vandalism to the Jewish cemetery in Blackley Manchester. Anti-Semitic graffiti and swastikas were painted over the gravestones. In addition to the slogans and graffiti about 40 headstones were toppled by the vandals. Two 13-year-old boys were arrested by police and charged with the horrific crime
The NMJCT (North Manchester Jewish Cemetery Trust) arranged for a clean up operation to take place on Sunday at the cemetery. Misaskim of Manchester also got involved and ask for volunteers to join them in the cleanup. Posters were hung up around the neighborhood (click HERE to view).
On Sunday, a large crowd from all faiths, including many non Jews, arrived to give a helping hand.
Volunteers of Misaskim Manchester were on hand to help and also to give refreshments to the many people that came to help.
