Real estate developer Avigdor Kelner, who was convicted in the Holyland case and sentenced to four years imprisonment and a 1 million NIS fine, is appealing to the Supreme Court. The appeal was filed on Tuesday, 26 Sivan 5774, making him the first of the defendants to file an appeal.
Attorneys Eitan Maoz, Dikla Karnei and Daniel Einav contend there is no proof that he paid the state witness Shmuel Dechner bribe money. They are also asking the high court to permit their client to postpone beginning his jail term pending the outcome of the appeal.
Other defendants convicted in the case include former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert (7 years imprisonment), Hillel Cherney (3.5 years imprisonment), Meir Rabin (5 years imprisonment), Uri Sheetrit (7 years imprisonment) and Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky (6 years imprisonment).
