FBI agents in the United States questioned businessman Ofir Ben-Eliezer, a son of MK (Labor) Binyamin Ben-Eliezer in connection to the case against his father. MK Ben-Eliezer is suspected of not reporting substantial sums of income to avoid paying income tax. Yisrael Hayom reports it was the first time Ofir was questioned but likely not the last.
Israel has made an official request, asking to permit Israel Police officials to question Ofir Ben-Eliezer. Israeli Police has been in touch with Ofir Ben-Eliezer a number of weeks ago, requesting that he come to Israel voluntarily but this has not occurred to date. The son of the MK has been living in the US for over 30 years.
MK Ben-Eliezer told police investigators in Israel that his son, who is a successful real estate developer, sent him the $800,000 that was intended for payment on the luxury Tel Aviv area penthouse. He added that $450,000 of that money was found by police in cash in a safety deposit box in a branch of Bank Discount in Jerusalem the additional $350,000 was exchanged with a money changer.
MK Ben-Eliezer also told police that the paper trail that supports his story can be found in the hands of his son.
