Judge Scolds Prosecutors in Marathon Bombing Case

bmbA federal judge has issued a stern warning to prosecutors in the case against Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev about current or former members of its team speaking to the media.

The warning in court Wednesday came in response to interviews retired FBI agents gave around the April anniversary of the bombings that killed three people.

The judge declined to impose sanctions on prosecutors if such disclosures happen again, as Tsarnaev’s lawyers sought.

The defense also objected to FBI agents’ continued monitoring of Tsarnaev’s meetings in prison with his family and lawyers.

The judge accepted a compromise offered by prosecutors: assigning an agent or other federal official not related to the case, strictly for security.

A motion to move the trial out of Boston was not discussed.
