RCP Issues a Call to Recite Tehillim for the Captives

2

The Administrative Committee of the Rabbinical Congress for Peace (RCP) has issued a call to world Jewry to join in tefilos for the safe and speedy return of the three teens that were abducted in Gush Etzion last Thursday night, the eve of 15 Sivan. Yidden around the world are urged to recite Tehillim perakim 20 and 79.

The rabbis noted that although this is a very difficult time for everyone the truth must be stated – the immediate tailwind for the abduction was the various releases of terrorists in the past. The terrorists saw that it pays to kidnap and that is the only way that all their wishes will be fulfilled.

“Precisely now is the time to alarm over the past so that for future reference the appropriate response will be clear to everyone. In order to preempt further bloodshed or incidents like those that confront us today: don’t ever give the green light, in any circumstances, to free blood thirsty terrorists. Don’t ever award a prize to terror.

We all pray to “Him who grants understanding to man,” that He should guide the government of Israel in the proper direction – to take an unflinching stand against our neighbors who seek our destruction. Only by standing staunchly in the cause of the welfare of the Jewish people will we merit the fulfillment of the Biblical promise “I will provide peace in the land, and you will lie down with none to frighten you.”

  1. EDUCATIONAL PRIMERS FOR THE CAMPAIGN FOR THE RELEASE OF THE STUDENTS OF RABBI STEINSALTZ:
    1. Guide for the Perplexed – to understand the religious aspirations of the Arabs
    2. The Gallic War by Julius Caesar – to understand the elements of war
    3. the Movie “Spartacus” directed by Stanley Kubrick for its depiction of a corrupt and incompetent military
    4. the Movie “Slaughterhouse 5” from the book by Kurt Vonnegut for the killing by German sergeant of the only prisoner of war in his group who is a germanophile.

The Arabs have taken these students as captives primarily for glory. If they see there is no glory in holding as prisoners the students of a tzadik, they will release them.
