Man In Custody After Threat By Lincoln Tunnel

arrestPolice say they have a suspect in custody following a false threat that snarled rush-hour traffic around the Lincoln Tunnel.

Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo said Wednesday that a Georgia resident was taken into custody in Manhattan. Authorities were transporting him to New Jersey, where the case originated, to face charges of creating false public alarm and terroristic threats.

Emergency responders swarmed around the tunnel area after Weehawken police got a 911 call around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday. The person claimed there was a sniper on top of a building overlooking the tunnel on the New Jersey side.

Police also ordered passengers off a light rail train near New Jersey’s Lincoln Harbor station during the search.
