Dani Dayan, Former Chairman of the Yesha Council of Jewish Communities in Yehuda and Shomron feels the chareidim should be brought into the coalition government.
His words on Wednesday, 13 Sivan echo the same call heard a day earlier by MK (Bayit Yehudi) Yoni Chetboun, who said “The chareidi support for Rivlin proves that national camp can be rebuilt and this is an opportunity to rebuild the coalition”. They feel that Shas and Yahadut Hatorah should be brought into the government in place of Yesh Atid and The Movement.
In his Facebook post Dayan speaks of the opportunity that exists to replace the current coalition. He cites two primary reasons, the recent inflammatory and hateful statements made against residents of Yehuda and Shomron by Justice Minister (The Movement) Tzipi Livni and Finance Minister (Yesh Atid) Yair Lapid.
Dayan adds that whatever the case may be, this government is simply limping along and its days are numbered at best. “A narrow united coalition of 61 is preferable to a broader coalition that cannot agree and with hostile elements regarding yishuvim. Especially, when looking into the future it is imperative to repair the chasm that has been created between the right-wing dati leumi and chareidi communities towards the continuation of our government.”

But the price would be to cancel the plan to conscript hareidim, either through ending conscription and switching to a volunteer/professional army, or enacting a Basic Law allowing persons to learn in yeshiva rather than serve in the army (which would be very unpopular with the hilonim, but might be acceptable if it also overrules the Supreme Court’s decisions restricting benefits to veterans).
Unfortunately, Naftali Bennett has it in for the chareidim in the worst way. It was his sole purpose in joining with Yesh Atid in the first place. It’s the only thing he cares about. He lets Lapid walk all over him just so he can satisfy his evil desires to inflict pain on the chareidim.
We must daven. He is an evil man – worse than Lapid, according to many gadolei hador.
rebbenachman : But Bayit Yehudi is now in the situation of deciding which is worse, making peace with the hareidim (ending conscription) or making peace with the Palestinians (giving up the settlements in the West Bank). Of course neither will end the struggles, either between the hareidim and the zionists, not between the Arabs and the Israelis – but politicians tend to see things in the short run only. Bennett may hate us, be he loves the settlements more.
Israel is nowhere even close to giving up west bank settlements, etc. Even Lapid knows nothing will happen. He’s talking the leftist game for votes.
And don’t be so sure that Bennett loves settlements more than hating the chareidim.
#2 You couldn’t be more wrong. First of all, Bennett approached Chareidi parties before Lapid to enter into a partnership and was rebuffed. He has also worked hard to counter Lapid and help Chareidim in many instances. He just believes that Chareidim, other than the real Learners, should serve the country and wants to help them get out of poverty.
One more thing #2, these so-called “Settlements” that you refer too, is on our Land, given to us by Hashem. For Chareidim to oppose them goes against the grain of everything we believe in. Also, to the Arabs, Meah Shearim and the rest of the Country, is a settlement that they want destroyed.
Opposing the Country is asking for another Holocaust, Ch,v. That is precisely what the Arabs say they want to do to ALL of us, and not just those of us that actually live in Israel. That goes for you too.
