On Motzei Shabbos, March 3, 2013, R’ Nachman and his wife Raizy Glauber Z”L, both a tender 21 years of age, were instantly killed in a heartbreaking collision by an errant motorist, as they made their way to the hospital to deliver their first child, a son, who ultimately passed away as well.
This tragedy shook all of Klal Yisroel, and therefore deserved a response which includes all of Klal Yisroel. Thus, the couple’s family and friends vowed to perpetuate their young, yet rich, lives via the writing of a brand new Sefer Torah to be used and celebrated with in their eternal memory.
They will never have the chance to raise their child or build a family of their own, but we, members of Klal Yisroel will ensure that the legacy of this young is not forgotten nor lost.
A campaign was launched to write a Sefer Torah in their memory, and Boruch Hashem it was completed.
The driver of the vehicle, Julio Acevedo, pleaded not guilty to A driver pleaded not guilty to three counts of manslaughter as well as criminally negligent homicide. A lesser charge, accuses him of leaving the scene of the accident in Brooklyn. He could face up to life in prison if convicted.
Prosecutors say Acevedo was traveling nearly 70 miles per hour — more than twice the speed limit — on March 3, 2013 when he crashed into a hired car carrying Nachman and Raizy Glauber, who were on their way to a hospital because she wasn’t feeling well.
The Glaubers, both 21, died that day. Their son, delivered by cesarean section, died a day later.
The deaths left the Frum community in Brooklyn grief-stricken and touched off an intense manhunt for the 44-year-old suspect, who served time in the 1990s for a shooting conviction. He surrendered in Bethlehem, Pa., after five days on the run.
