NYC VIOLENCE CONTINUES: 11 People Shot In 6 Hours In Brooklyn; Multiple People Stabbed

nypdn1As the NYPD begins to focus heavily on traffic violations, and as the crime-fighting tool known as ‘stop-and-frisk’ is used less and less, the city was hit with yet another violent night of crime. Last weekend, NYC saw 2 dead in 7 shootings, and 3 injured in 2 stabbings – all in under 6 hours. This weekend, a string of shootings made for one of the most violent nights in Brooklyn so far this year.

In just over a six-hour span from late Saturday night into early Sunday morning, seven separate shooting incidents in the borough left 11 people injured.

There was also a horrific incident in Brooklyn where two children were stabbed. A 6-year-old child was murdered in cold blood, and a 7-year-old is in critical condition. The perpetrator is at large, and no motive is known. Additionally, there were other stabbing incidents, which left multiple victims hospitalized.

Some local residents say they are not surprised by the frenzy of violence, and are calling for stricter gun control.

Meanwhile, as the violence continues, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton called the uptick in violence the city has been experiencing lately — fueled by a spike in shootings — a “reality” of crime in NYC.

The city has now seen a nearly 10 percent increase in shootings through May 25, with 381 compared to 347 at the same point last year, according to the latest NYPD statistics.

Bratton added that he doesn’t believe the jump is related to the department’s move away from the stop-and-frisk tactics deployed by former Commissioner Raymond Kelly and Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

  1. If “stop and frisk” were still in effect as it was in the past there would be fewer guns carried. I for one wouldn’t carry my illegal gun if I thought there was any change of being stopped and frisked. Lives have been lost due to the end of this effective deterent.

  2. “(Commissioner) Bratton added that he doesn’t believe the jump is related to the department’s move away from the stop-and-frisk tactics deployed by former Commissioner Raymond Kelly and Mayor Michael Bloomberg.”

Probably more likely due to the decreased levels of sugar, fat, and second-hand smoke we have all been forced to tolerate.

  3. Bratton is a disgrace! He is just a puppet of Dinkins, oops, I mean Deblasio! I wonder which Mosad/Organization will be Mechaneff/honoring Bratton this week? Bratton is starting to make Ray “cover-up” Kelly, look like a hero! Bratton reminds me of Lee Brown (remember the lead up to Crown Heights?). A total useful idiot for the powers that be! When Bratton was hired by Guliani, years ago, he was serious about reducing and preventing crime. He wasn’t concerned about being called a “Racist” by the NYTimes. He was here to save lives. Now he is just an empty shell of his former self! What a LOSER!

  4. Frum-n-Fair: “We need Ray Kelly back.” Perhaps, but if this is what we are experiencing, it is because we deserve it not because of some political appointment.
