The Orange cellular telephone provider has cut a deal with AIG Insurance and the Meir Group, with the latter being the sole importer of Volvo and Honda in Israel. If a subscriber wishes s/he can install a computer in a vehicle that will monitor speed and driving habits and if the driver is determined to be a safe driver, s/he will receive a .03% deduction on the vehicle insurance.
The deal is for a half year, after which Orange may move to another insurance company if the company wishes. Meir will install the computers free of charge but at some point there will be a 20 shekel monthly user charge.
