Upon his return to Israel Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto was questioned by police investigators for a number of hours on Tuesday, 28 Iyar 5774. The interrogation was interrupted as the rabbi was informed that his rebitzen was hospitalized.
Magen David Adom was summoned during the afternoon hours to the Pinto home. The rebitzen was transported to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon where she was reported in light condition. The rav received the message after 10 hours of questioning and police agreed to permit him to leave to tend to his wife.
It is reported the rav’s attorney reached an understanding with the prosecutor that the rabbi will provide information in the bribery case involving former senior police commander Menashe Arbiv. It is reported that Rabbi Pinto, who is also suspected of criminal activity, has agreed to testify in exchange for a lighter sentence. He is essentially agreeing to become a state witness against the former police commander.
