Secretary of State John Kerry on Wednesday called National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden a fugitive and challenged him to “man up and come back to the United States.”
Kerry was asked about Snowden in a nationally broadcast interview in the wake of an interview in which Snowden said he never intended to be holed up in Russia but was forced to go there because Washington decided to “revoke my passport.”
Asked about this, Kerry replied on NBC’s “Today” show: “Well, for a supposedly smart guy, that’s a pretty dumb answer, after all.”
Snowden, a former NSA contract analyst, leaked a massive volume of NSA documents to the media.
“If Mr. Snowden wants to come back to the United States,” Kerry said, “we’ll have him on a flight today.” Kerry said Snowden should “stand up in the United States and make his case to the American people.”
In his interview with NBC anchor Brian Williams, a portion of which was broadcast Tuesday, Snowden said he was “trained as a spy” and argued that he had a much larger role in U.S. intelligence than the government has acknowledged.
“I was trained as a spy in sort of the traditional sense of the word, in that I lived and worked undercover overseas,” he said.
Kerry said, “A patriot would not run away. … He can come home but he’s a fugitive from justice.”
“Let him come back and make his case,” the secretary added. “If he cares so much about America and he believes in America, he should trust the American system of justice.”
“I think he’s confused,” Kerry added. “I think it’s very sad. But this is a man who has done great damage to his country.”

Dear Haughty John F Student Kerry who by the way served in Vietnam,
I guess it’s nice bring able to give advice with some knowledge of what it is like to be a traitor. After all, YOU were exactly that when you testified falsely to congress in the early seventies. In a normal world you would have been treated like the piece of excrement you were and continue to be.

Or he could just come back and plead the 5th to every question like Obama’s stooges do.
Snowden would have to be nuts to “man up” and go back to the U.S. only to be taken to jail the second the plane hits ground.
I’m not following Mr. Kerry’s logic. Particularly in light of Mr. Snowden’s actions demonstrating he doesn’t agree with everything America does, Mr. Kerry still feels that “If he cares so much about America and he believes in America” then it automatically follows that “he should trust the American system of justice”? How so?

But John Kerry did serve. With distinction.
If snowden will return he will be thrown into jail with no due process of law – the damage will be assessed by the likes of Mr. Clapper, who has lied to congress repeatedly, with no consequences.
Snowden will be assumed to have caused grave damage although any evidence will be suppressed as ‘state secrets’. There is no point in his coming to the states. He will merely cost taxpayers money to provide for him in jail for life.
Mr. Kerry should man up and go swimming with crocodiles. That would be really brave!
This ineffective secretary of state should man up himself and send in his resignation so that we can all get a break from his smooth talking with 0 results to show for it.
