Two of the victims of the Shabbos terror attack in the Jewish Museum in Brussels have been identified as a couple from Tel Aviv. The couple has been identified as 54-year-old Emanuel Riva HY”D and his wife 53-year-old Miriam HY”D.
The third fatality in the attack was a volunteer in the museum, 69-year-old Dominique Shavriel HY”D. The critically injured employee in the museum, Alexandre Strens, has died of his massive injuries bringing the death toll in the attack to four.
On Thursday, two days prior to the attack, Rika, a 72-year-old Jewish woman from Brussels who is active in the local Jewish community informed her colleagues that she was not feeling well and would therefore not be able to make it on Shabbos as planned. As a result, Dominique Shavriel took her place.
Rika began volunteering in the museum about four years ago. She worked there four shifts weekly. During recent weeks however she has not been feeling well and as a result, she has been coming less frequently. She is quoted telling Kikar Shabbos “I feel that HKBH is watching out for me and he saved me. I am truly pained over the incident. I will be going to the vigil outside the museum to light a memorial candle.
The surveillance video of the attack showed a man with cap walking into the small Jewish Museum in the Sablon area, clearly bent on quickly carrying out a pre-planned attack. The whole assault took a minute at most.
