IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz insists the announcement that reservists will not take part in training exercises is not a ploy but a reality based on significant budget cuts in defense spending. The military’s commander spoke of his deep concerns regarding the “readiness of the reserves at the present time as well as in the foreseeable future”. Gantz made his comments at an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding reserve duty officers and soldiers. He stated the treasury remains adamant in its refusal to increase the military’s budget and this has not led to a cut in training for reservists.
Gantz added “as chief of the General Staff, I give you my word that I will do my utmost to prevent the cut in the defense budget from becoming a cut in the nation’s defense”.

As if Israel were threatened by the Arabs? Israel needs to budget money to absorb more Hareidi jobniks and to expand the military prison system to cope with draft resistance. After all, priorities are priorities. What good is a “Jewish” state if its overrun with Hareidim? And its safer fighting hareidim since they don’t shoot back.
