Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein on Monday, 19 Iyar announced the presidential election will be held on 12 Sivan 5774, corresponding to June 10, 2014.

The candidates for the post of Israel’s 10th president include Reuven Rivlin (Likud), Mei Sheetrit (The Movement), and Binyamin Ben-Eliezer (Labor). Regarding Silvan Shalom (Likud), reports indicate that he is expected to officially announce his candidacy. Former Labor MK and Knesset speaker Dalia Itzik is also likely to enter the race.

Other possible contenders include Dalia Dorner (a former Supreme Court Chief Justice), and Prof. Dan Shectman (a Nobel Prize laureate).
