A 20 year record was broken in 2013 with the construction of 3,442 apartments in the capital. 2,470 apartments were built in 2012 and 2,360 in 2011. Jerusalem also led in the number of completed apartments in 2013, leading the country with 6% as opposed to Tel Aviv with 4% and Haifa 2%.
Housing Minister Uri Ariel announced that in order to lower housing prices in the capital there must be more construction, promising his office will continue working towards increasing the number of apartments built in the capital.
