Police shot and killed a man Sunday evening after they say he lunged at them with scissors in a Brooklyn apartment. It was the third shooting involving NYPD officers in three days.
An NYPD spokesperson told YWN that on Sunday evening at 8:30PM, two uniformed Police Officers assigned to the 70 Precinct responded to a 911 call of a female stabbed involving a male with a knife inside 60 Clarkson Avenue, in a second-floor apartment. Upon arrival, officers observed a 38-year-old female victim with a stab wound to the shoulder in the lobby of the location. After gaining entry to the second-floor apartment, the two officers were confronted by a 39-year-old male suspect, who lunged at them with a pair of scissors. The officers both discharged their weapons at the suspect. The suspect was struck in the hand and torso. EMS pronounced the suspect DOA at the scene. The female victim was transported via EMS to Kings County Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition. Both officers were transported to Maimonides Hospital for tinnitus. No other injuries were reported.
A pair of scissors was recovered from the scene.
The shooting follows another police-involved shooting early Sunday in which NYPD officers shot and wounded a man they said pointed a gun at them in East Harlem.
Police said they were responding to a 911 call about a large disorderly group and a man with a firearm at the Washington Houses. According to the police, the suspect ran away when they arrived. During the ensuing chase, they say, the suspect turned and pointed a .22-caliber revolver at the officers and they fired.
In a police-involved shooting on Friday afternoon, four officers shot and killed a man suspected of taking drugs and cash from a Manhattan pharmacy after the man raised his weapon at them, police said.
